Eastern Cape

Port Elizabeth

Port Elizabeth (PE) is not only home to stunning beaches, interesting museums and award-winning wildlife destinations, but also some of the friendliest people in the country. It's no surprise to visitors that it's called the "Friendly City".   Port Elizabeth - or the Friendly City - is a coastal hub in the Eastern Cape where everything is only a 15-minute drive from the airport. It's one of the largest cities in South Africa, lying 770km east of Cape Town where it forms part of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, which links the city with the inland industrial towns of Uitenhage and Despatch.   When you want to hit the beach, Algoa Bay, the coastal strip...

RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY

Port Elizabeth, Newton Park

Lying close to Greenacres, Adcockvale, Fernglen and Perridgevale, the upper middle class suburb of Newton Park is ideally placed for easy access to beaches, St George's Park Cricket Stadium and Cape Road CBD. It's essentially a residential suburb with at least three schools in amongst its tree-lined avenues. If that does not paint a clear enough picture then mention Third Avenue dip to anyone and they'll know exactly where Newton Park is.

Port Elizabeth, South End

The suburb of South End, as it's name suggests, lies just to the south of the centre of Port Elizabeth overlooking the harbour. It lies between Humewood and the centre of the city, east of Settlers Park Nature Reserve, a prime spot to base yourself in the city. But it is South End's history that interests those who stay here. In similar fashion to District 6 in Cape Town, South End was a colourful neighbourhood that, because of its prime location right near the centre of town, was the site of enforced relocation of its residents during Apartheid, after which the suburb was flattened. Before this however, during the 1950s and early 1960s, South End was highly...

RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY

Port Elizabeth, Walmer

Walmer, a rather popular suburb of Port Elizabeth with its wide tree lined streets, is something of an establishment - a number of the city's oldest families live here, and businesses too are lining up for their share of the large homes, as parts of Walmer fall into demarcated business zones, particularly on Main Road. Walmer's origins are as a farm that was later sub-divided - the portion known as 'Muller town' renamed to Walmer after the Duke of Wellington, who died at Walmer Castle, which goes some way to explain its links with older, more established residents of Port Elizabeth, some of whom could have been here since the 1850s. Aside from its obvious beauty,...

RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY

Port Elizabeth, Westering

Situated along Cape Road, past the main business areas and William Moffett Expressway, you would expect a lot of hustle and bustle, but this is not the case. Instead, you find a quiet, primarily residential suburb, with schools and some convenience stores scattered around. It is a place generations of families call home. Although Westering is essentially quietly nestled away, it is still close to major shopping complexes, entertainment facilities and eateries. The commute to the industrial areas of the city is fairly easy as the suburb is connected via a network of nearby highways. Routes also lead to the beach making Westering central, convenient and an ideal place for...
